    Steroids are a human-made version of hormones typically secreted by the adrenal gland, who are just above each kidney. When taken in doses higher the amount your body usually has. It-
    • Reduces inflammation. Inflammation occurs when the body's immune system responds to injury or infection. When this affects the tissues under the skin, the area can become painful, red. Inflammation usually protects you, but sometimes inflammation can cause harm to your body. It can help to treat inflammatory conditions like eczema.
    • Lessens the activity of the immune system, the body's natural Defense against infections. This can help treat autoimmune conditions, such as rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) caused by immune system mistakenly attacking the body.
